Day1 ; Time to warm up the suspension and body armour so it was a day of shuttles hitting the trails on Mt Hutt. The team at DHNZ made sure we got a variety of trails using gravity to our advantage. The trails were awesome, heaps of tight single track with drops, straights, kickers and structures. Such a wicked place to ride and made easy with the local knowledge of the DHNZ team.

Day 2 and we wanted something different. A suggestion was made so we loaded up the DHNZ wagon and headed for the hills. The start of the ride was a steady long climb that weaved its way through a forest, kept going until we got through to the alpine line, this is where we stopped riding and put the bikes on the back, way to steep to ride even for the gutsiest mountain goat. After a 20 minute hike we hit the top of the saddle allowing us to view the scree slope that we were about to ride. Dropping onto the scree and carved this up like deep powder. My first time riding scree and just loved it , I can see it being something I look for more of. Dropping onto single track for the next 40 minutes , through forest , flowing and tight corners with mean drops so if you stuff it up look out . This is a wicked track to finish the day on, bombing down this had the veins pumping. An excellent couple of days riding with a team that were keen to try a variety of tracks, this was a true free riding couple of days. If you are keen to get out on some wicked trails, hook up with the DHNZ.com crew.

Here are some possible options:

Single day / afternoon.
Leaving our base in Methven, we head for the hills. We take you up the access road for Mt Hutt Skifield, climbing to about 1600m above sea level. Checking out one of New Zealand’s premier skifields and the surrounding areas in the summer gives a totally new perspective on them. We then emulate the mountain bike leg of the famous peak-to-pub trail, leaving the skifield and descending along the access road to the base of the mountain at 500m. This is around 14km, with 85% of it being downhill.

Overnight - 2 days.
Leaving our base in Methven, we head south and follow the Rangitata River toward the Southern Alps. We cross the inland plane then climb to 650m to find the luxurious homestead at Mesopotamia high country station. Here we have a large range of options available, from high level cross country, to heli-drops for long descents. We will customize the trips to suit each group's individual needs.
